Mental Health For Millenials 4

What is Mental Health for Millenials? Mental Health For Millenials bookseries started by Dr. Niall Mc over at Book Hub Publishing. People are invited to write a chapter that links in with a certain theme. Three books have already been published, number 4 is coming on Saturday – World Mental Health Day. So… what’s new? Last year, Niall asked me to write a chapter for book 4, on wellness and well-being. Had a few ideas in mind, but ended up writing a chapter about our homelessness last year. It was still fresh and a little raw so I could dive right back into my feelings at the time. You can read small bit here: I slept most of the days when the toddler had gone to preschool and ever so slowly, I came back to myself. Days in the hotel turned into weeks. Thankfully we had the savings to pay for the hotel room, but READ MORE

The Vincent Ehindero Blogger Award Tag

Good morning! The first proper blog in ages. I am aware it looks like I blog only once a year, but most I write as a first draft and then don’t touch again. I’m not very good at properly finishing things, it’s one of the things I’m trying to get better at this year. The Vincent Ehindero Blogger Award Rules Thank the person who nominated you with a link to their blog. Make a post of the award (with a photo of the logo). Post the rules Answer the questions asked by the person who tagged you. Ask 5-10 questions of your choice. Nominate 10-30 other bloggers (or more) and notify them. I got tagged by Katie over at Life with Ktkinnes for the Vincent Ehindero Blogger Award Tag. You can read her post here. Thank you very much for the tag, a nice push to actually do something with the blog and definitely very READ MORE

Day 1 – 14DaysOfWriting

A 15 minute stream of consciousness writing exercise. Help, where do I start? Already misspelled my first word but what can you do. I’m looking forward to the rest of the 14 days of writing, wherever that will take me. I’m officially starting on day 3 due to my mother being here and just not taking the time even though I know I should take that time. There are just too many distractions, too much to do. I’ve all of the excuses, like having a newborn baby and having just moved so I have to sort my house. I know I need to sit down and just write write write, but there is always that voice in the back of my mind asking “what if I’m not good enough?” However, I do realise you can never be or become good if you don’t sit down to write. Even writing crap will make you a better READ MORE

Back in July 2014, I wrote this post: Earlier today, I got this tweet from one of my friends: “In fact I double dare you! 🙂 Writers yearn to be read! Let us read you!” and decided to start this blog. I’m scared of people actually reading my random thoughts, short stories and random ramblings so here goes nothing. I might use this blog more as a diary than an actual blog, because my mind is too random to focus on just one thing and I’ll probably end up all over the place. Since it’s Tumblr: yes there will be pretty pictures to be posted as well, I know how this website works. Who I am? A Dutch girl, twentysomething, mostly gay with a weak spot for just this one guy. People call me rebel, nerd, cold bitch or babe. Can’t live without Twitter. Crazy cat lady. Official nerd by trade, but I might go READ MORE

Back to Youtube?

Wait, video? Seems I’m recording more videos than blogging these days, even though #Blogtober preparations are well on the way at this stage! I used to love making video and uploading them to YouTube. General silliness, Ice Bucket challenge in 2014, drunk chatty videos, everything. Hope to do more with it, including businessy stuff for Alicorn. But we all know that I’m basically a big, sarcastic child. Which means I’ll stick to my video roots of general silliness. And last week, something happened. I decided to start over and actually use my YouTube channel. Dave, Justin and I like to record silly requests for this radioshow called ‘All Request Saturday Night’ hosted by Ron Sedaille on Fun Tower Radio. On Saturday, after hosting the ’80s Mixtape’ on Limerick City Community Radio, Dave and I decided to record another request for that night. As I was messing about with my camera during the show anyway, I READ MORE

Apologies, My foreign readers. This is a very open post about the upcoming referendum in Ireland about repealing the Eighth Amendment. Feel free to stop reading, unless you’re interested in pregnant people’s rights, abortion and why this is extremely personal to me. Article 40.3.3, known as the Eighth Amendment, was voted into the Irish Constitution by referendum in 1983. The amendment states: ‘The states acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.’ The amendment equates the life of a pregnant woman with that of an embryo or foetus and has created an unworkable distinction between a pregnant woman’s life and her health. (Source: Repeal Eight) Abortion in the Netherlands. First of all, a little backstory. I’m born and raised in the Netherlands, READ MORE

Lupus and pregnant?

Pregnant? I am pregnant, the title isn’t clickbait. A little over 3 months, at this stage. I found out in March and until I got out of that first trimester, I didn’t tell a lot of people. My mum was here in Ireland at the time and I told her after a couple of days, but only after I’d seen the GP to make sure it was real and everything was okay. I didn’t really know whether I should blog about it but made a post in a lupus support group on Facebook and asked if people would be interested in reading it. The people that replied said yes so here we are. Lupus? Back in 2009 I got diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, SLE for short but better known as lupus. There is a whole backstory to that diagnosis that I will blog about at another time or might even make a video talking READ MORE

Nerd on the Radio funny!

Oops! Honestly, I’ve been surprising myself this last year that I haven’t had an awful lot of big fails since the start of my radioshow, Nerd on the Radio. That also meant that something was about to happen sooner or later. And it did, today. A little backstory might be in order here. I have a toddler, Benjamin, who is breastfed. Due to circumstances beyond my control I didn’t have a babysitter during my radioshow this afternoon and decided to bring Ben with me. Assuming he’d be fine for the hour after I packed him snacks, a drink and a charged phone so he could watch a video while I was doing my show. Everything was fine even if I was a little distracted sometimes, right up until the end.  Even though there was a bottle of lemonade in front of him, he still wanted something else… Funny clip is only 11 seconds, but enjoy!

Back to blogging, for me.

Back to blogging, for me? Back to blogging, for me. I don’t know why I stopped, think it was a combination of writer’s block and complete lack of motivation to do anything. SAD tends to hit during the wintertime and I generally don’t want to get out of bed or do anything while it’s in full force. I also think that setting the bars too high might have something to do with it, so this time I won’t do it. No bars, no schedule, no exact hitting the Yoast SEO scores. What now? Back in the day I used to love blogging and do it all for myself. I might have posted them publicly, but the selfcare side was much more important. I blogged a lot, I still have about 5 blogs floating around on the internet but I’m slowly shutting them all down so I can focus on this one. This is my little READ MORE

30. Vlogtober on Youtube!

Vlogtober? After talking about it (and sometimes actually uploading) for years, I finally started a proper Youtube channel. This month, October, is Vlogtober over on the channel. What that means is that I will be posting a new video every day. Sometimes it will be an actual vlog and I’ll post about my day, sometimes it will be a random video or me chatting or creating. Yesterday I posted the trailer, today I will take you along on my day. I’ll be heading to LCCR in an hour to cover for Patrick Mercie, and Danny and I will be kickstarting the week! Of course I will post some behind the scenes footage of that. Please subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with the videos because you’ll be notified then! Here is the trailer: Thank you and chat soon, Jx
